The tittle-tattle, bits ‘n bobs of my life…

urbanisation…BRING IT ON!!!!

ok…i have so so so so so so missed civilisation. Today I was in London and oh boy I felt rejuvenated, alive, energised, like I’ve had a can of red bull but without the nasty taste of redbull…like I’ve had a hit and I’m buzzing life wildfire. So many creative ideas, so many things, not enough brain to store it in…its like its overflowing.
I also met several artists today, and manage to rummage through debates and discussions. I really enjoyed it. We talked about what about the digital era, and the lost of the traditional film and where some of the artists are now. My regret was that I didn’t have a camera or bring the video cam…gawd im such a pain when it comes to having my stuff within reach even my phone died on me. We even started talking about soft cinema, so I have a few ideas penned in my head.
Also I saw Sunshine earlier this weekend, and I have to say it was very good. Loved the soundtrack, the homage to Aliens…i agree its not one for everybody, but nonetheless from an artistic point of view, I think it is awesome.
I can hardly contain myself, I feel like Edina whos rambling on when she is organising her catwalk in Ab Fab…creatively spasticated overload.

production meeting on fire…

So I met up with Sarah today, and I have to say it was a very very productive meeting. We talked about our idea, i.e. the Eve of War From the War of the World’s Soundtrack, and we were using the theme of The Unknown. We talked bout the subliminal advertising, and the coca cola scandal…what with using the one frame several times during a cinema movie, and conspiracy theories. I think our idea has matured into something which looks at the flaws of mankind and key moments in the last half of a century, and carries several narratives within one film.

Overall it was a positive and I came away from that meeting, feeling a lot better as we have a good direction and angle in terms of tackling this. Now what we need to do is compile it to form one piece.

We also discussed about the teamwork that is a bit of an issue at the moment…

lights, camera and let the creative juices flow…

I’m all video camera out n whatnot for musaabs project and we got some major headway on our iDAT104 project. I can feel it in me bones….in me bones!!!

First up, iDAT104, we finally came up with a concept…have to say Kenny is very good at devising concepts. Big respect to him. So our idea, basically, it’s the “Unknown”. The idea stems from several things…science fiction, politics and just general things in life..and how we are going to incorporate this into our project is a bit tricky to explain. The soundtrack for “The War of the Worlds” is best used ot explain and more specifically we will be using the “Eve of the War” track, as we feel it will provide a brilliant basis to our project. Also we will be using the source movie, although the text that has been added to the film has annoyed us as we will have shorter clips than we would like. So therefore we are sourcing a lot of free archives on the net. Meanwhile I am waiting for our lecturer to show up for a quick discussion, but I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon, will prolly have to reschedule. We haven’t heard pipsqueak from chris in the last 3 weeks, so we’re not too sure what’s going on there or if he is planning on contributing or not.

Secondly, Mussaabs project. I’m feeling adventurous, and I do have to say I can feel me creative juices flowing, to what extent…that is another matter. I have decided to pick a soundtrack and use that as inspiration and take it from there. The track I’m using is Punk by Gorrillaz. I can almost picture the video…the problem will I be able to match the video to the vision I have. It’s annoying when you do have the vision, but then in reality it doesnt turn out the way you envisioned it to be.

cnet, bnet…zero net.

ok, so we have to install two operating systems on one computer i.e. dual boot, and then set up the different users and come up with a report to sum it all up. I asked if i could do it on our own systems as between kenny and I we both had a pc that needed a clean install. The technician said, it would be advisable to do it on the uni computers as we could damage and face problems installing in ours…so we went ahead and did in the computer labs. We got the bit of creating users in Linux after crashing and destroying a HDD on a pc…hey it wasn’t our fault, we were told to use that computer and if it aint up to scratch…so sue me. We encountered several problems because the actual brief was very badly worded and it was very difficult to follow it. They provided hints and very important info after you reach a certain stage…it would be nice to be told before we actually do that stage if that info is needed prior to it. Nevertheless after a 6 hour slog, we still didn’t finish and consequently gave up. The sun was out, the room was hot, and our PC was being weird (we had to install linux several times, because we had a faulty installer disc, brilliant isn’t it). Now I am going to attempt to do it on our own pc…though that said I might check the shops and see if they have the latest version of linux in the linux magazines (openSuse).

While we are on the subject of installing operating systems, I managed to install MacOS X on my own PC. YAY!!!! While I am kinda ashamed to see the black pc running it…I have to say, it is actually quite nippy and impressive. Way hey better than Windows. Speaking of Windows, I tried out Vista for 2 weeks, after that I just couldn’t take it. There were three notable things that I actually have to commend Vista for…yes, thats right…3 things.

1). The installation process is very seamless and very nice. It was actually a pleasure installing.
2). Repairing a disc/disk (can someone point out to me is it Disc or is it Disk, I get confused!!) is a doddle with Vista.

and last and not least, worthy of a standing ovation, can we have a drum roll please (drum roll)…

It shuts down quickly!!!

I am not kidding, it does shut down quickly. I was so impressed with that…but with the unnecessary complicated networking (I like my computers to communicate with each other and be one big happy family i.e. friends with panther, windows ME, tiger and XP…I’m a nerd and have several computers in the house), and the fact vista is just a hungry B****h. I was running Vista on a 64bit AMD Sempron, with 512MB of RAM and 256 MB Video Ram, it just wasn’t enough. Vista just simply wanted to drags its feet and be a whiney Diva and demand for more. Needless to say, I went running back to XP.

“Vista, I don’t wanna see ya!!!”.

flash, camera and actionscript…

ok so it’s a naff headline, but I guess I was trying to figure a plan of action. I handed in my iDAT102 assignment today meeting in my opinion the criteria. However, I wasn’t happy with the creativitiness behind it. It was down to bad time mismanagement. I was so focussed with my soft131 and I simply didn’t get the chance to sit down and really explore actionscript. I’ve decided to get myself the flash book, the one that was recommended and this summer, really sit down and get to grips with the whole coding. Also I want to take it to another level, to a point where I feel really comfortable with it. I have been quite disappointed with myself in the last couple of weeks, but it’s been understandable, what with the stress and personal problems I have been dealing with.
So…next up, is musaab’s video, idat104 and CNET113. here we go…

damn you VB deveopers…

yes damn you VB developers…you heard. After consistant headbanging and self torture, soft131 has been handed in. Unfortunately I never fulfilled the criteria, much to my disappointment…and I didn’t leave it to the last minute as well. I have been trying to work it out and find out why it won’t accept various code of one form or another. I ended up making sure it was workable and handing it in as a working version, even though it didn’t have the ratings. It was a hard and horrid affair, but I am looking forward to finding out the error of my ways. Thankfully I wasn’t alone when it came to this task…i lost heart over it in the weekend, and really wish I had the resources to tackle it better.

I’m free, I’m free, I’m free…

Ooh he was fevourishly waiting for the Urls…but i finally got mine in with 9mins to spare. Oh boy, never ever ever and I mean ever again will I get myself in the same tutorials. I have learnt alot both about time management, groups, the people I work with.

I am having scary thoughts and can actually vision Mike sitting at the computer, with his wicked grin…ok i better stop.

The site, which is in the beta version, Asqueal Beta which is in line with everything else on this blog. It has all the coursework on it. I am actually quite impressed with it. It was a pain to get it up and running…oh gawd im so knackered…ill talk more later on. Tonight, I’m free for the time being that is.

rant, rant, rant…er…yeah about tomorrow…

I categorically hate deadlines, but then who doesn’t. That said I have been pulling my weight in the group work even though the previous few weeks have been a bit of a strain personally. Just stuff…anyways. I have been foccusing my energies on soft131, which has now been extended…much to my relief but then to my annoyance, I’ve realised how much I have to do for my iDAT101…all of the tasks are due in tomorrow, and what has been happening I have been letting things get in my way and I am really not happy about it. To illustrate how unhappy I am, I have been cleaning…yep. It’s bad…I have been cleaning. Anyway, my flash project is so so. my soft131 is going along…and my iDAT103, the less said the better and as for iDAT101…it’s a full on assault for my narrative map today. Today, I’ll be posting periodically if something springs to mind, but don’t hold me to it.  (cue thunderbird music) ok time for me to go…

asp shespee crappeee

jeez, this project is doing me head in. No matter what two ways I tackle this, I keep banging my head on it…the good news is, I have progress quite substantially.

To fill you in, as I know I don’t update much about soft131. Basically, I have been working on creating an online gallery page, with the use of ASP. I have achieved the login, displaying my photos, doing the gallery, the search function, and basically I have two things left, the rating aspect and the next and previous button aspect. Seems so little, I can assure this prolly is the hardest bit. Well, I get it in the tutorials, but doing it on my example seems to mess up, so I can’t quite work out why it doesn’t want to work.

I’ve asked for tutorial from Mark Dixon, hes going to get back to me…hopefully, I will tackle this. The schedule timetable is tight, and I do have quite a bit to get through. Anyway, I am going to try and tackle it now, before I catch the train or at least make some head way.

what a load of…

Ok..we have two sessions left for the final masterpiece…and what do we today? go on what was probably the most unorganised tour of the uni…i felt like a prospective student and all I needed was some chewing gum and a lost look on my face. It was cool finally seeing some of the upper years work…but not today. Today, we needed help and we didn’t get it. It really ticked me off…we are behind and with all these deadlines…I was so not happy with the fact that we had to do some tour.
Nevertheless on our little walks of randomness, spoke to sarah to get some ideas/feedback…and ultimately we decided it would be wise to create a short preview of our idea.

Our idea being based on the interview in Trainspotting the movie, and have a database of movies and text representing the thoughts of the people in that scene. It seems cool, and does require quite a lot of work for us to do…but right now it’s the only feasible idea we have.

After a very productive day yesterday, I had probably the most unproductive day ever!!!!!
